Rethinking Green Tax Propositions By Adopting The Circular Economy Approach.

Positioning Plastic Waste Recycling as an Inclusive Catalyst for Unlocking a Sustainable Circular Economy in Nigeria

Rethinking Green Taxation

Nigeria generated approximately 46 million tons of plastic waste between 2007 and 2017, but only 12% was recycled. This report highlights the significant recycling gap across the country, with Lagos generating 3.3 million tons and recycling just 400,000 tons. The findings reveal the environmental and economic consequences of unmanaged plastic waste, including pollution, flooding, and health risks. It calls for stronger policies, investment in recycling infrastructure, circular economy initiatives, and community engagement to increase recycling, reduce environmental impacts, and unlock new opportunities for jobs and economic growth.
