The World’s Largest Green Business Idea Competition

The Climate Launchpad is the world’s largest green business idea competition with the mission to unlock the best of cleantech ideas that address climate change. The competition creates a stage for innovative and socially inclusive solutions. The Climate Launchpad is part of the Entrepreneurship offerings of EIT Climate-KIC. 

The Nigeria Climate Innovation Center (NCIC) is the implementation partner for Climate Launchpad in Nigeria. This annual event draws hundreds of applications from climate-smart ideators and innovators in Nigeria.  The top three participants from Nigeria get to represent the country at the Regional Finals and the top 3 participants from the regional finals get to represent Africa at the global finals.

In 2020 Climate Launchpad Nigeria received over 300 applications, 18 of which were selected for the Bootcamp which was facilitated by Mr. Lawrence Thiga from Kenya. Of the original 18 ideas, 16 were selected to pitch at the Nigeria National Finals.

The Climate Launchpad Nigeria National Finals had the Honourable Minister of State for Environment Madam Sharon Ikeazor as the special guest while Mr. Sean Melbourne, Head of Climate Change, West Africa, British Commission as the keynote speaker.

LCP Nigeria 2020 produced 3 winner that went ahead to compete at the Africa Regional Finals. The winners are Salubata in first position, Famrspeak Technology as first runner-up and Dross to Gem in third position. 

Climate Launchpad with support from Irish aid conducted post CLP impact activities in some selected countries. Fortunately, Nigeria was among the selected and over a 3-day period an Idea to Enterprise Bootcamp was conducted to help the selected participants transition their ideas into viable enterprises.
